Description

Open booking

Experience the freedom of 50cc’s as you enjoy downtown Austin,  its historic neighborhoods,  and the surrounding hill country.

The scooters are easy to drive because they are automatic and lightweight.  I’ll find a safe place to practice and give you a few tips if you need it.

This tour is extremely flexible.
-  Ride on the back of my scooter
-  Drive your own and i’ll lead the way
        OR
-  Ditch me and just “rent”  a scooter!

What's Included

I will provide Honda Metropolitan scooter for everyone,  along with a helmet and a quick guide to your scooter.  Then,  depending on your experience,  i’ll start you off in a school parking lot or head straight for the city or hill country.  Of course,  I’m always flexible so I’ll show you my favorite places or let you take control of the direction and i’ll try to keep up.

What to bring?

no motorcycle license needed.  You must have a valid drivers license,  wear a helmet,  and sign a wavier and a document saying you’ll pay for damages if you wreck my scooter.

Additional Info

I take “local guiding”  seriously.  With any of my tours,  you’ll get loads of side benefits.  Depending on the day you come,  I’ll invite you to whatever my friends are doing after our tour,  let you borrow my mountain bike to explore the city on your own,  etc.  Trust me,  you’ll get a lot more than you paid for.

Unless you request a private your,  I’ll always invite my friends along with whatever we plan to do.  It’s more fun for both of us.

First and foremost,  Aaron was a great guide.  At the very beginning he gave me all the necessary safety info that I needed including tips on the scooter.  After a warmup run,  we explored all around Austin and he showed me amazing areas that I never knew existed.  In addition,  he asked what I wanted to see so the tour was catered to my interests.  He was a great host and I’m looknig forward to my next stop in Austin!  Thanks Aaron!

What a blast!  Aaron was a warm,  welcoming and courteous guide and made me want to move to Austin!  It was my first time on a scooter and not my last.  Aaron came and picked me up for no extra charge,  we cruised around Austin while he pointed out great local attractions,  then headed up Mt.  Bonnell to see the sunset.  What an amazing view!  Aaron also helped me get up to the terrace of Mt Bonnell (a rooftop like gazebo structure),  which was above and beyond,  but so worth it!  After the actual scootering,  we also ate at a cool food trailer since I had mentioned that I hadn’t been yet and heard good things.  To top it all off,  he gave me a free guide hop t-shirt and lent me a bike for the rest of my stay here!  Definitely worth it and overall a fantastic experience.

I only date Aaron for the adventure—caving,  kayaking,  cliff jumping,  tandem biking,  moped riding,  rock hopping,  hitchhiking,  frisbee golfing,  camping,  night hiking,  glow-in-the-dark ultimate frisbee,  bonfires,  sliding down waterfalls,  unicycle football—everyone knows these are essential elements of any successful relationship.

I have known Aaron all his life and   am still being amazed at his creativity and ability to see what others do not.  He can take you places you’ve never been while doing so safely and thriftily.  He truly finds joy in life.  You will find joy and adventure with Aaron.

I’ve been friends with Aaron for a couple of years and he is easily the most active,  adventure-seeking person I know.  Aaron is the poster boy for a GuideHop guide:  he’s passionate about the activities he guides,  he’s an excellent instructor and experienced guide,  and he’s just a good,  down-to-earth guy that loves meeting new people and showing them his city.  I highly recommend you go on one of Aaron’s (very unique and fun!)  activities.

Aaron is a very energetic and extraverted person.  he is able to talk or communicate with any nationality from around the world (just look at the pictures).  He is always looking for adventure wherever he goes,  or plans on going,  to include getting there with spending as little a possible while doing it.  He is responsible,  and knows the limits (whatever they may be).  You will be amazed at the things he can find to do when you think there is nothing going on around you.  If you are looking for adventure,  then you have found your match.  Just remember,  be careful what you ask for.  Aaron will take you to the limit and you will enjoy it for a lifetime.

I met Aaron in college about 6 years ago in a place that didn’t seem like there was much to do or many places to have fun.  However Aaron was always discovering somewhere new to take his friends whether it was canoeing down the creek,  unicycling around town,  mopeding to abandoned lighthouses,  hitch hiking to get out of town,  or rafting across a pond to uniquely experience the town zoo.  I always felt safe going with him even when I had no idea where we were headed.  I wouldn’t hesitate to let Aaron take me on an excursion around Austin.  You will experience things you never would have otherwise and I know it would be a trip to remember.

Aaron

Aaron is a founding member of Guidehop and its first guide.  He is an expert on Austin’s outdoor offerings and is willing to give you the keys to his city.  He finds adventure in places where others see none,  and can discover more about an area’s outdoors in a single week than others find in a lifetime.  Aaron is a seasoned world traveler who has been to over 30 countries,  mostly via hitchhiking and other forms of ultra-cheap travel.  He is passionate about sharing his way of life and bringing people along with him,  whether through organizing a massive hitchhiking race from Texas to North Carolina,  hosting an island camp out,  or convincing his friends to start a scooter gang.  Aaron holds the record for the longest field goal ever in the Unicycle Football League where he is a two-time national champion with his team the Hot Dogs.  When he’s not traveling,  Aaron can be found playing ping pong and teaching Speech at a local high school.

Qualifications & Experience

I’ve had a scooter for 10 years now and love them.  I also buy and sell alot of scooters and they usually end up with one of my friends.  At some point or another most of the scooters in the photo were mine.  I’ve taught more than 30 people to scooter,  even the most timid!
