Description
Walk through three urban farms in the heart of historic East Austin!
Austin’s historic East Side is home to several urban farms that are practicing organic, sustainable agriculture in order to bring healthy, local food to the city. Some have been around for years and others are just getting started, but all have that unique, charming, Austin style.
Come with me on a walking tour to visit three of these farms. We’ll walk through rows of beautiful vegetables, watch the chickens roaming freely, and have the opportunity to purchase delectable produce at each farm stand while chatting it up with the owners and other friendly locals.
This tour is for Austinites who don’t realize what’s growing in their own “backyard”, out of town guests looking to see a different side of Austin that might have otherwise been overlooked, and anyone wanting to see for themselves what goes on at an urban farm.
What's Included
-A friendly local tour guide (me)
-A walk between three Austin urban farms (Each farm is only a few blocks from each other, no more than a few miles total walking for the tour)
-An opportunity to purchase produce from each farm’s farm stand
-An opportunity to talk directly with the farm owners (if they’re in town)
What to bring?
Bring comfortable walking shoes, water, sunscreen or a hat, cash for produce from the farm stands, and a bag to carry your produce.
Additional Info
Optional: After the walking tour, if you’d like, we can take a 5 minute drive to a popular East Austin Cafe that grows it’s own food in its scenic urban garden adjacent to the restaurant. It’s another wonderful garden to explore, and the food is amazing! (food not included in the tour)
